“Pray as if everything depends on God, act as if everything depends on you” will be the theme of the Shabbat Ruach service on Saturday, May 5. The Rev. Dr. Cynthia Huling Hummel and Maggid Paul Solyn will tell stories on this theme during the service and at a kiddush lunch following it.
Cynthia attends many JCF and CKA events and spoke at Shabbat Ruach in December 2016. She received her B.S. degree from Rutgers College, M.Div. from New Brunswick Theological Seminary and D.Min. from McCormick Seminary. She was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister in 1996 and served as a pastor for 15 years.
She also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Jamaica, worked for Dun and Bradstreet for fifteen years, and sings in a band called “Country Magic.”
Paul has been executive director of the Jewish center and Federation of the Twin Tiers since 2007 and received an M.J.Ed. degree from Hebrew College, Boston. In 2017 he was ordained as a Maggid-Educator—a teacher who provides spiritual education through storytelling.
The Shabbat Ruach service is at 10:00 a.m., preceded by Torah Yoga. Please note that it’s on the first Saturday of May because of the Cocktails & Knosh Affair the following weekend.
